Woodworking Takes Off at Gaythorne!

Wood you believe it? Our Gaythorne Woodworking Program is in full swing, running weekly and giving participants the opportunity to learn new skills and create something special with their own hands.

Richard is currently working on a horse and old chap box, Donna is sanding a Kiwi Koru, Alvaro is creating a TV puzzle tray, and the rest of the group are busy crafting charcuterie boards. Each session is filled with curiosity, creativity, and plenty of laughter.

Woodworking is about more than building projects — it’s a great way to strengthen hand-eye coordination, develop problem-solving skills, and build a sense of purpose. Participants can see their ideas come to life, which builds confidence and pride in what they can achieve.

We love introducing new experiences that allow participants to try new things in a safe, supportive environment while expressing themselves creatively. It’s also wonderful to see the encouragement and support shared between everyone as they measure, sand, and create together.

We can’t wait to see what the next sessions bring and watch even more amazing creations come to life!

Embracing Family Connections

We’re excited to share a heartwarming moment of family connection with Timothy, one of our group home clients. He recently enjoyed a special visit with his sister, making the day truly memorable!

Arriving with flowers and chocolates, Timothy treated his sister to lunch at a local café, and they spent the day catching up and enjoying each other’s company. It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen family bonds and participate in the community together.

Moments like these remind us how meaningful social connections are and the positive impact they have on wellbeing. We love seeing our clients take the initiative to create these special experiences and look forward to many more opportunities for connection in the future!

Eloma's Very Own Superman!

Kenny, a SIL client, kicked off the New Year in style with a special sea adventure at Jacobs Well! With the support of staff, he enjoyed time out on the water, proudly wearing his Superman cape and showing off his fun personality and confidence.

Emily thrives at the beach!

During the Christmas break, Emily enjoyed a fun-filled day at Thirroul Beach in Wollongong with her housemates. The group made the most of the sunshine and coastal views, spending time building sandcastles, walking along the shoreline, and dipping their feet in the water. Emily was fully immersed in the experience, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and the simple joys of a day by the beautiful sea.

Outings like this create meaningful opportunities for connection, exploration, and enjoyment. The beach provided the perfect setting for Emily to spend quality time with her housemates while taking in the fresh air and beautiful surroundings.

We would like to acknowledge our dedicated support staff who thoughtfully planned and supported this outing. Their care and commitment play a vital role in creating positive experiences that empower the people we support to enjoy life, build connections, and make lasting memories.

A Group Home Filled With Festive Spirit

The festive season arrived in style at one of our group homes, where Dylan and Kenny teamed up to bring Christmas cheer to their group home.

With plenty of enthusiasm, Kenny helped lift and steady the tree while adding bright tinsel and decorations. Dylan, wearing his signature grin, carefully placed each ornament and made sure the red and gold tinsel was wrapped just right. Together, they transformed the room into a warm, glowing celebration of the season.

The highlight came when Kenny proudly placed the sparkling golden star on top of the tree, the perfect finishing touch. By the end of the evening, the tree stood tall and full of personality, reflecting the joy, teamwork, and sense of belonging shared throughout the group home.

A special thank you to Shannon for supporting Dylan and Kenny in creating a festive display that truly captures the spirit of Christmas. Their combined efforts have made the home feel merry, bright, and ready for the countdown to Christmas!

A Day with the Alpacas!

Ray from our Group Homes recently enjoyed a morning full of curiosity, joy, and fresh air at the Canungra Alpaca Farm! From the moment he arrived, his excitement was clear as he watched the alpacas roam freely across the paddocks. A few friendly alpacas even came close to the fence, bringing big smiles and plenty of laughs.

With the support of staff, Ray explored the farm at his own pace, soaking in the peaceful environment and enjoying the gentle company of the animals. The outing offered both fun and relaxation, creating a memorable experience that lifted spirits and sparked genuine happiness.

This adventure is a great example of how meaningful community activities can enhance social participation, encourage engagement, and bring real joy. Ray’s day at the alpaca farm reminds us of the value of experiences that are not just fun, but truly enriching!

Exploring the World and Building Confidence!

Over the past few months, Luke has been embracing new experiences and discovering the world around him through his 1:1 Community Access outings. What began as small steps, gentle encouragement and quiet moments of support has grown into real, visible progress as he connects with others, tries new things and builds confidence at his own pace.

Luke’s interests have been the key to unlocking some incredible adventures. His love of trucks made the Museum of Fire the perfect outing, where he explored fire engines and emergency vehicles up close. A visit to Bankstown Airport brought even more excitement as he watched planes take off, checked out aircraft on the ground and fuelled his curiosity for all things that fly.

These personalised outings have offered more than just fun days out. They’ve helped Luke develop important life skills, grow his independence and begin participating more confidently in his community. With consistent support and encouragement, he is now stepping into small group activities, sharing moments with peers and building connections that once felt out of reach.

We are incredibly proud of Luke and everything he continues to achieve. His journey is a beautiful reminder that when we follow a person’s interests, honour their pace and celebrate every win, wonderful things can happen.
